1. The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Author: Stephen Chbosky Genre: Epistolary, Fiction Theme: Inclusivity, Tolerance, Mental Health, Healing and Self-Discovery What I Love About the Book: It is amazingly well-written. The Perks of Being a Wallflower has a first-person narrative in the form of letters. It feels personal, and touches upon so many important issues (mentioned above) without seeming preachy or forced. It is one of those most beautiful, meaningful and deep books, which everyone must read. I’ll share some quotes I love from the book:
“We accept the love we think we deserve.”
“So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be.”
“So, I guess we are who we are for alot of reasons. And maybe we'll never know most of them. But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.”
“And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.”
Do I recommend it? Yes! I think that absolutely everyone should read this book.

2. The Zahir
Author: Paulo Coelho Genre: Psychological Fiction Theme: Love, Loss and Obsession What I Love About the Book: The Zahir is symbolic, and makes you reconsider your perspective towards many everyday situations. The characters are flawed and beautiful. Reading this book feels like traveling the world, almost as if you’re on a quest to find yourself. It talks about disconnecting from the baggage of the past, believing in the mysterious ways of the Universe and healing. The people, customs and events are described in a way that is gripping. Most importantly, this is one of the books that inspires you and changes you just a little, definitely for the better. Do I recommend it? Yes!
3. We Were Liars
Author: E Lockhart Genre: Psychological Thriller Theme: It focuses on how even rich, fancy and seemingly perfect families have problems they try to conceal. The book also revolves around a theme of consequences of one’s mistakes. What I Love About the Book: It is different from anything I’ve ever read before. It is a thriller, and nothing is what it seems to be. I can’t talk much about the storyline if I don’t want to give out a spoiler, but you would want to read the book all over again when you discover the huge, huge twist at the end. We Were Liars did not leave me with a warm feeling in my heart, and I hated the protagonist at the end. But, in hindsight, the book was a unique experience, and I don’t regret reading it. Do I recommend it? If you love suspense or psychological thrillers, then YES. However, if you are looking for a heart-warming, feel-good book, skip this one.
