Book Review: Breathless by Jennifer Niven

What I Loved about the Book: Breathless puts into words feelings we've always experienced, but never really expressed. Even if your life experiences don't match the characters', you can still somehow relate. Their is striking use of literary devices, including imagery. The novel makes you laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time.

There is a metaphor that is continually used in the book- that of a 'floor'. A base, which you assume cannot be taken away from you. But sometimes, it is. There are 'defining moments', that contribute to shaping the characters of Claude and Miah.

Claude's mother is an author, and Claude herself enjoys writing. So, naturally, there is a selection of quotes in the book on this skill that I absolutely loved reading. Jennifer Niven deals with complicated and sensitive topics with finesse in this novel, making it an absolutely unputdownable read.

The ending is heart-wrenching, but I found it almost comforting. It is a convincing end to a beautifully written book. A must read in my opinion, especially if you enjoyed reading All the Bright Places!
