The winter season is almost here. What could be a better way to enjoy the chilly weather than curling up with a good book? Here are the reviews of three books, each of a different genre, that I recently read and loved. Choose whatever genre you’re in the mood for and get ready for a fun journey!

Note: As I could not decide which one of these books I like the most, the list is in a random order. It is not a countdown :)

Wild Embers

Genre: Poetry Poet: Nikita Gill What I Love About the Book: From the thoughts, the ideas, the poems and how they’ve been woven together, I loved everything about this book. Nikita Gill has used simple words to convey deep and complex ideas. The poems make you think, feel empowered and tell you to embrace your uniqueness, all at the same time. You can read and reread them without getting bored. It has fairytales in the form of poems with twists, poetry about revolution and much more.

“We have calcium in our bones, iron in our veins, carbon in our souls, and nitrogen in our brains. 93 percent stardust, with souls made of flames, we are all just stars that have people names.”

This is just one of the many beautiful poems in the book. If you love poetry, you could give this book a reading (and check out the ‘Poetry’ section of my blog too 😉)

Strong as Fire, Fierce as Flame

Genre: Historical Fiction Author: Supriya Kelkar What I Love About the Book: This is one of the very few historical fiction books based on the past of our country. It breathes life into the facts we’ve heard about the India of 1857, and tells the story of a 13-year-old girl, Meera. It begins with her running away from her home as she would otherwise have been forced to commit Sati when her husband died. The transformation of the docile, submissive Meera into a girl who decides to contribute in the struggle for freedom, due to the adversity she faced, is a remarkable one. The novel beautifully showcases the culture and traditions, and perspectives of all the people involved- the Indians, and the British. The facts and details are spot on. The author takes care and highlights how not all the Indians believed in these regressive customs, and how women were made to feel inferior even in the West. The story ends on a heart-warming note, leaving the reader with the belief that each one of us has a divine fire within us, and is as fierce as flame. It fills us with hope and resolution. The Harry Potter Series

Genre: Fantasy Fiction Author: JK Rowling What I Love About the Book: Do I need to mention it? Probably not. Everyone already knows. Will I still do it? Absolutely.

JK Rowling has created a whole new world. One where there is magic and the possibilities are endless. Add to that vivid, descriptive scenes and perfectly imperfect characters, with a dash of humour, and you get an unputdownable book. This seven-book series is a beautiful journey and is totally unpredictable. By the third or fourth book, you’d be doubting all the characters, because the good guys turn out to be bad and vice-versa so often! Each character and incident has a history and the books are interrelated and never, for a moment, boring. Everyone, no matter how old you are, should try reading the first book atleast to begin with, and I'm sure the rest will automatically follow. Be ready to be left spellbound!
