Book: Better than the Movies
Author: Lynn Painter
Genre: Young Adult Fiction
Themes: Romance, Enemies to Lovers
Review:
Better than the Movies is a breezy read, with a light doze of humour. It lives up to all the cliches of a YA Romance novel, including the one dead parent the protagonist always has. The quotes in the beginning of each chapter, all from classic love books or movies, add a nice touch to the reading experience. The author does justice to the story, and it does not feel rushed or forced at any point, even if it is a tad predictable. The banter between the two characters- Liz and Wes is humourous and witty.
Added to all that, the few Taylor Swift references sprinkled in between make the book a great one-time read!
Quotes from the Book that I Loved:
“You look best when you're you.”
“Sometimes we get so tied up in our idea of what we think we want that we miss out on the amazingness of what we could actually have.”
“When I'm around you, I kind of feel like I'm on drugs. Not that I do drugs. Unless you do drugs, in which case, I do them all the time. All of them.”
“Love is patient, love is kind, love means slowly losing your mind.”
