Author: Emily Henry

Genre: Fiction, Romance

Theme: Happy Endings, Family, Love, Re-Discovering Yourself

What I Loved about the Book: Beach Read is not just a feel-good romance novel with a happily ever after. It is that, and so much more. It speaks of complex themes, like death and grief, and forgiveness. The characters are layered, relatable and beautifully written. Both the protagonists January and Gus are flawed but lovable, and their chemistry is apparent from the very first page. It is both humourous and emotional in the perfect ratio.

The plot does not seem repetitive or boring. It talks of confronting ghosts of your past and moving on. All in all, Beach Read is a must read for anyone who enjoys romance novels with a layered plot!

Quotes from the Book:

“And that was the moment I realized: when the world felt dark and scary, love could whisk you off to go dancing; laughter could take some of the pain away; beauty could punch holes in your fear. I decided then that my life would be full of all three.”

“That was what I'd always loved about reading, what had driven me to write in the first place. That feeling that a new world was being spun like a spiderweb around you and you couldn't move until the whole thing had revealed itself to you.”

“People were complicated. They weren't math problems; they were collections of feelings and decisions and dumb luck.”
