Life isn't Just a Movie

“Movies touch our hearts and awaken our vision, and change the way we see things. They take us to other places; they open doors and minds.” ― Martin Scorsese
Movies are a great way to pass time and get some entertainment. Many of us have been binge-watching series and movies in different languages and genres. They help us escape from the stressful reality for a few hours, and often leave us with interesting points to ponder over.
Sometimes I feel that the life of each one of us is so happening that a movie could be made on it. And in a way, lives are like a movie too – we all have a beginning, rising action, climax and resolution in it. Each person in our life, including ourselves, has character traits, motives and specific roles to play. After all, stories are made from our lives, and our lives are made of stories.
But then, movies can be a negative influence on us too. Subconsciously we start wishing our lives would be as perfect as Bollywood movies. We want to have amazing bodies like the heroes and heroines, and wish to look flawless like them all the time. Not a strand of hair out of place, shiny skin and a pretty smile – no, no one looks like that all the time in real life. Movies also make us believe in ideal endings, which is not always the case. Of course, there are exceptions, like Chhichhore, The Sky is Pink and Dil Bechara.
“Life isn’t a fairy-tale, where the heroes are righteous and the villains are wicked, this is reality and sometimes the would-be heroes betray us, and the devil lends a helping hand.”
The fact is that people actually study in colleges, girls don’t always have a loyal best friend and a coach, parent or teacher is not always standing behind a successful person with a stick. In sports, teams do lose against the same opposition in similar conditions again – like India lost the Cricket World Test Championship final – and that is okay. People are not always motivated and and the goals are not always in sight. And that is fine too.
“Happily ever after is not a fairytale. It is a choice.” -Fawn Weaver
So, let us, the audience, choose not to be negatively impacted by movies. We should just enjoy them and take away positive points from them. The important thing is to remember that life isn’t a movie, and it is not supposed to be perfect. Whatever happens, happens for the better, and at the end everything would be okay. And if it's not okay, it's not the end.
