“The education system should always be an evolving process by itself.”

-Sadhguru

Life, as we know it, is ever-changing. And since education prepares students for life, it is necessary for it undergo a transformation, too. After all, if we teach today's students as we taught yesterday's, we rob them of a better tomorrow.

There are many innovative ways by which the education system can evolve. The COVID-19 pandemic has acted as a catalyst in many ways towards this transition. One such interesting concept is that of hybrid learning. In simple words, hybrid learning is an educational model where some students attend class in-person, while others join the class virtually from home.

Through hybrid learning, we get the best of both worlds. We do not miss out on human interaction and make the optimum use of technology, too. For example, half the students of a class can have offline lessons on alternate days and online classes on other days. Hybrid learning creates a unique blend of technological resources and the rich wisdom and experience of teachers. These steps are already being implemented in most schools and universities, thanks to the gradual reopening after the pandemic.

Another benefit is that hybrid learning helps teachers to cater to each student’s needs. Those who do not have access to the internet or electronic devices can attend school physically. It would make differently-abled and economically disadvantaged students feel included and comfortable. Hybrid learning unites students otherwise divided by distance.

In the last decade, studies have repeatedly shown that online and hybrid learning is just as effective as the traditional model, and in many ways more so, for one simple reason: more people can access it.

When students are present in classrooms, they learn how to interact with their peers and how to manage their inter-personal relationships. When they study online, they learn to be independent and to manage their time well. All of these are soft skills and would help students in all walks of life. Hybrid learning makes both teachers and students more creative and makes learning far more effective. I believe that hybrid learning is a revolution and it is here to stay.

By embracing hybrid learning, we can take the first step towards transforming education. We can set out on a long and beautiful journey of educating students’ hearts and minds.
