3 Reasons Why I Love the New Cinderella

Cinderella- who hasn’t heard the name? All of us remember her as the kind and sensitive girl who dared to dream and one day found her prince charming, with whom she lived happily ever after. But, what if, we add a modern twist to the tale? What if Cinderella dreams of becoming an entrepreneur and actually turns down the prince’s wedding proposal to follow her dreams?

This is the theme of the movie Cinderella, which released on OTT platforms a few weeks ago. It stars Camila Cabello, Idina Menzel, Billy Porter, and Pierce Brosnan in leading roles. Here is what I loved about the movie:

The Personality of the New Cinderella: Ella telling the prince, ‘I choose me’, is what little girls and boys need to hear, instead of 'the usual knight in shining armour saving the princess' stories. She finds it hard to walk in her glass slippers and asks Fab G (Yes, the Fabulous Fairy Godmother) to make them more comfortable. As the clock strikes midnight, she finds it hard to run in her heels and throws one of her slippers at the people following her, shouting, “Dress your feet for comfort, people!”. Such scenes, coupled with the bold and confident personality Ella has, make for an enjoyable and satisfying watch. The scriptwriters beautifully sprinkle modern fairy dust on the tale.

Flawed (but not Evil) Characters: Oh, how we hated Cinderella’s cruel stepmother! But in this story, her stepmother is said to have had encountered problems when she decided to follow her dreams. This made her rigid about how a girl should behave. The king, in the beginning of the story, seems to be haughty and controlling but sees his mistake by the end. This is the beauty of this movie: there are no villains.

The Music: You’d expect good music as soon as you hear that the movie stars Camilla Cabello. It has some beautiful songs, like A Million to One, which has lyrics that say,

“ If it's a million to one I'm gonna be that one and If it's a shot in the dark I'm gonna be the sun” Ella and the prince dancing to ‘Perfect’ is also one of the many sweet moments in the movie.

So, people, go ahead and watch the movie!
