Gracia loved being outdoors- she loved the sunshine, enjoyed sports and had a real knack for finding adventures. Her mother marveled at how she could not keep quiet for a moment or stop running around, for Gracia was a lively and fun-loving girl who just couldn’t avoid chaos and trouble. So, wasn’t exactly thrilled when the lockdown was announced for the second time, because of the second wave.

Gracia couldn’t bear being confined to her home for any longer. Once or twice she thought of quietly sneaking out of the house, but decided against it. She did realize that it wasn’t very safe to go out at that time. She tried to make the most of the situation, and went out in the front lawn to bounce a ball against the wall, but it got boring after a while. Her parents were busy, and though they tried to spend as much time as they could with her, Gracia felt lonely. She had a pigeon for company, though- it would watch her bouncing the ball, from a distance and would fly away when she was done. This monotonous routine eventually made Gracia grumpy.

Then, one day, she spotted the set of Harry Potter books her mother had brought for her a couple of years ago. She wiped the dust off them and started reading the first book. Soon, she was totally hooked and was reading the book every free moment she got. She would laugh, cry and gasp while reading, just like she did when she was watching sports. She wholeheartedly agreed with JK Rowling- words are the most inexhaustible source of magic.

She started going out to the front lawn more often, as she felt lighter and happier. Gracia also saw the same pigeon once again, and decided to name it Hedwig- after Harry’s owl. It’s funny how the littlest of things make us feel so much better, like the books made Gracia so lively again. They returned to her what she missed the most- adventure- albeit in a slightly different form. Whenever she felt upset, she remembered Professor Dumbledore’s words, “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, only if we remember to switch on the light.”

If Harry got a letter to Hogwarts after eleven years of staying in the cupboard under the stairs”, she would often think, “I would also find some sunshine and rainbows after this storm”.

And sure enough, her Hogwarts letter came soon after.
